A recent article on CNN claims "Last cavemen were survivors" I know this is a semantic issue, but please please PLEASE try to make sense with your headlines (at least the ones not on the Entertainment pages) .
The last cavemen died.
They were not survivors.
Otherwise the headline would read "Last Homo sapiens were survivors"
